IMPROVE YOUR LEARNING QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1 How is the “Trabeate” principle of architecture different from “arcuate”?
The “trabeate” way of building uses straight beams held up by vertical posts, like in old buildings such as Stonehenge. On the other hand, the “arcuate” method uses curved shapes like arches to support structures, as seen in things like Roman aqueducts and big cathedrals. The main difference is that trabeate is straight and simple, while arcuate is curved and can support bigger spaces without needing as much material.
2 What is a shikhara?
A “shikhara” is like a tall, pointy tower you often see on top of Hindu temples in India. It’s made of stone or brick and looks fancy with designs carved into it. It’s a special part of the temple that shows it’s a sacred place.
3 What are the elements of a Mughal chahar bagh garden?
A Mughal chahar bagh garden is like a peaceful paradise, divided into four parts by pathways or waterways. In the middle, there’s a big fountain or pool where the paths cross, making a square shape. There are shady spots to relax and enjoy the view and lots of pretty plants arranged in cool patterns. It’s surrounded by a strong wall to keep it private and safe. This garden is a special place that shows the beauty of the Mughal culture.
4 How did a temple communicate the importance of a king?
Kings showed they were important by building big temples. Inside, words and pictures were praising the king, showing he was special. The temples were usually in important places, like the capital city, to show the king’s power. Kings also gave money to the temples to keep them nice, proving they cared about religion. So, temples were a big way for kings to tell everyone how important they were.
5 Read the second para of introduction part of page 177 and comment on it?
From the 8th to the 18th century, kings were busy building things. They made forts, palaces, tombs, temples, mosques, tanks, wells, and more. These buildings were like symbols of their skills in art and architecture.
6 Is there a statue or a memorial in your village or town? why was it placed there? what purpose does it serve?
In the middle of our village, there’s a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It’s there to honor him because he helped make our country fair for everyone. The statue reminds us of his important work for equality and justice. People in our village look up to him and the statue brings us together. It’s like a big symbol of respect and inspiration for everyone who sees it.
7 Visit and describe any park or garden in your neighborhood. In what ways is it similar to or different from the garden of the Mughal?
In my area, there’s a park called Green Valley Park. It’s big and has trees, benches, and paths for walking. There’s also a playground, basketball court, and a pond with ducks. People come here to relax and play. Green Valley Park is different from Mughal Gardens because it’s more casual and has modern stuff like playgrounds. But like Mughal gardens, it’s a nice place to enjoy nature and take a break.
