A “multi-hazard zone” is a place where different kinds of dangers can happen together. It could have floods, storms, earthquakes, or other risks all in one area. People need to be ready for these different dangers to stay safe.

“Human-induced hazard” is something dangerous caused by people’s actions, like pollution or deforestation, leading to problems like climate change or chemical spills. It’s when human activities make the environment risky for living things.

“Famine” is when there’s not enough food for many people to eat, leading to hunger and starvation. It happens when there’s a severe shortage of food in a region or country.

“Pest infection” is when insects or rats sneak into our homes or farms, causing damage and spreading diseases.

“Environmental degradation” is when we damage nature by polluting, cutting down trees, or leaving trash everywhere. It’s like making the environment sick because of how we treat it.

“Drought” is when there’s not enough rain for a long time, making it hard for plants, animals, and people to get enough water. It’s like a really long dry spell that causes problems for everything that needs water to survive.

One disaster I remember is a big flood in my town. It happened because of heavy rain. The water flooded streets and houses. It was on the news, and I saw it on TV. To reduce the impact, we could have built stronger barriers to stop the water, improved drainage systems, and educated people about staying safe during floods.

Following are a few steps through which disasters prevented.

1 A disaster can be managed with right precautions but cannot be prevented.

2 Create awareness about the disaster to the surrounding people.

3 Convey the information to other people using effective means of communication and transport.

4 Everyone should be ready to face any situation during disaster.

5 The people of disaster-prone areas must be shifted to higher places or any safe regions.

6 The Government and other agencies should help the people in such situations.

My elders often talk about disasters they’ve experienced, like earthquakes and hurricanes. They say that in the past, there wasn’t much preparation or management for disasters. People didn’t know what to do when disaster struck. But now, things have changed. There are better plans in place to keep people safe. We have drills and emergency kits. It’s important to listen to our elders’ experiences and learn from them to be better prepared for disasters in the future.

The following are few precautions to be taken by the people to face disasters.

1 Stay updated with the information through local radio or watch TV.

2 Make arrangements for dry food, drinking water and warm clothes.

3 Be ready with an emergency kit.

4 Turn off all the switches and stay away from water bodies.

5 Lock the house and try to escape from evacuation routes.

The effects of drought are,

1 Lack of drinking water which results in fall in the water table.

2 Decrease in the employment opportunities in the agricultural sector.

3 Decrease in the harvest area.

4 Lack of food grains, less fodder.

5 the number of cattle decreases.

6 Starvation leads to cholera and ophthalmia, ill-health and spread of diseases like diarrhoea and dysentery.

7 Mortgaging land, selling of jewelry and personal property without any profits.

8 People start migrating to other places for employment.
